Ernest in San Francisco, Most Earnestly

2021-10-05

I recently visited Ernest, one of the hardest spots to get a reservation these days in San Francisco, and run by a former Rich Table chef. I don’t live in the city, so I don’t get to adventure to foodie hot spots as often as I used to, but I felt, for the first time in a long time, that I had hit a gold mine.

If there’s one thing you should know about me, I hate food that’s just pretty but not good. But the food here was pretty enough while being just truly so delicious. The vibe was very laid back but polished. I think it’s a great spot for friends or a trendy date night.

My friends and I dined outside, and it’s a beautiful patio space in a quiet area, but I think it’s a win inside or outside (as long as you’re vaccinated, of course). I checked out the inside when I went to the bathroom, and it was lively and hip.

Every dish is a win, but I told my friends after the meal and told my partner when I got home that it’d be an absolute win getting several orders of the Lo Mein Carbonara. In fact, I may go back for a solo meal at the bar to vacuum up an order of the Lo Mein Carbonara with one of their delicious cocktails. With that said, if you’re going for the first time, the following is what we had, and you’ll be happy and full no matter what.
