By Way of the Bay

2016-06-16

Just got back from a week-long trip to the Bay Area after 8 months of being away from the States…and everything has been upturned !!

Being the person that I am, I’m back in Seoul and my head feels like it’s going to explode from all of the thoughts sprinting around.

A lot has happened the past few days (big one was some sort of deity aka God speaking to me in the form of a coworker – feel free to ask me for details). Long story short, when it rains, it pours, and I’ve approached everybody and their mother for advice. But the piece of advice that stuck out the most was “follow your happiness.” I guess I’ve heard “follow your heart” or “listen to your head” a lot, but I had never heard it worded with “happiness.” I think following your heart might not always mean following what makes you happy but rather what you feel…whether it’s right, whether it’s forgiveness, whether it’s family, whether it’s duty…but following your happiness is simple: go where you will be happiest. I guess I’m just trying to figure out what and where my happiness would be right now.

But honestly, aren’t we all? I had fallen into a comfortable routine before visiting California, and I came back, a lot happened, and I feel like I’m back at square one. I’m back to not knowing what I want, not knowing why, not knowing how to deal with who I want or where to go or what to do. As a young twenty-something (yup, I’m back), nothing is stable. I guess it was weird that things had been so quiet on the front, but it’s all coming back to me now (cue Celine). I’m unsure of everything once again.

Again, a lot happened these past few days, which I took to be signs. But I spoke to one of my friends and she told me my second favorite piece of advice: sure, I could take the “signs” for signs, but I should really be focusing on how these “signs” made me feel. So now, I’m trying to evaluate those emotions and go forward with them… while also trying to be realistic and practical… while also listening to the words of those who care about me. Because you know what? Not that many people truly do. Which is fair – people’s hearts and heads have a limited capacity. But trust nobody except those who have time and room for you, not the ones you wish had time and room for you.

Anyways, also being the person that I am, I was successful in eating everything I wanted to when I visited. So cheers to food fixing everything.
