We drove from Jacksonville to St. Simon’s Island, and from St. Simon’s Island to Sea Island. Spanish mosses sweep the streets and sunlight peeks through the lazy, flowering plants.
It was a warm and wonderful spring break. We were out practicing every morning, with a round at some of the most beautiful and private courses in the nation, from Frederica to a round ending at twilight, with the sun creating a gold lining over the trees at Seaside.
And of course, we got a taste of Southern comfort and hospitality. One of the highlights of the trip was going to the oldest, privately-owned restaurant on Saint Simon’s called Bennie’s Red Barn. Every human sense has its turn, from the dimmed lights, to the sound of the old man serenading the restaurant and individual tables with traditional songs, to the musky scent of the deep south and all the history that stays preserved within this old barnhouse.
I even got to have some local Georgia Shrimp & Grits!!
Needless to say, I was tempted to just jump back in the Atlantic and float there until twilight.
